for example video, animation( 2D , 3D), sound, music, voiceovers, VRML, 3D worlds, etc
By definition multimedia applications contain more than one type of media content.
In the design stage, and as the project progresses, the balance of the content and
number and mix of types of content, versus time and cost is a tricky one to manage and
sustain.
Like a well chosen picture that adds benefit to content, interactive elements that
involve the user in real activities is one of the ways to create content that exceeds
merely stringing media elements together. It excels at enhancing the users purpose in
using the product.
There is choice, there are options. Developing fully interactive elements can require a
lot more effort (from creative concept, to designing, through to programming and
implementing), but the outcomes can far outweigh that initial effort.
For example: for the
New Zealand Soils on CD publication
A key structure in identifying and describing soils, rests on the understanding of the
Soil Texture Triangle. The learner needs to not only know the main soil types, but derive
them from the 3 prime soil elements, and be able to use that skill to derive soil types at
any time, including out in the field.
Although there are some other options we would like to explore in future content
creation, we chose to provide:
- a step by step build up of how to derive a soil description, under user control rather
than some linear animation or video
